Where to Park in Milan?
Public parking in Milan is managed by ATM (Azienda Trasporti Milanesi). In addition, there are several private parking facilities (you can make a reservation for these on Parclick or MyParking). When driving, be very careful not to enter restricted traffic zones (marked with ZTL signs - Zona a traffico limitato), which are monitored by video cameras. Zone C, which corresponds to the historic city center of Milan, has access restrictions from Monday to Friday, between 07:30 and 19:30.
Paid Versus Free Parking Spaces
To encourage the use of public transport, many large park & ride parking lots (paid, but cheaper) are located near the main stations of the public transport system in Milan, especially near the metro.
Street parking spaces are marked with lines of different colors, which have the following meanings:
- Yellow lines: Parking spaces reserved for residents
- Blue lines: Paid parking spaces
- White lines: Free parking spaces
Most parking spaces are marked with yellow or blue lines. You won't find free parking (white-lined spaces) in the historic center.
What Is the Parking Price in Milan?
Park & ride parking lots are the cheapest. Their pricing is based on time intervals. Most charge €1.5 per interval of up to 5 hours, reaching up to €7.5 for an interval of 19-24 hours. A more expensive option is the Vittor Pisani parking lot, located closer to the center, near Stazione Centrale, where the rate is around €2 per hour (depending on the number of hours the parking is used).
You can view the map, schedule, and prices for park & ride parking lots on the ATM website.
For parking spaces marked with blue lines, the price is per hour and varies depending on the area of the city where you park your car. Each area has a corresponding code displayed on street signs. In the city center, the price is €3 per hour, and the maximum parking time between 08:00 and 19:00 is 2 hours. You can view the complete map of areas, prices, and maximum parking times on the ATM website.
For private parking lots, the price varies from one garage to another, depending on the proximity to the center.
How to Pay for Parking?
In park & ride facilities, payment is automated, using the ticket you pick up when entering the parking area.
If you park in spaces marked with blue lines, you can pay for parking in the following ways:
- At the parking meter (coins or card), by entering your car's license plate number.
- Through the MooneyGo, Easypark, or Telepass apps. The code in the app must match the one for the area where you are parking.
For private garages and parking lots, payment is made directly at the machine. You can also reserve and pay online, through Parclick or MyParking.
Use the CIAO5 code before completing your reservation on Tiqets and you will have a 5% discount.
