The Trentino-Alto Adige region (also known as Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol - South Tyrol) is one of the five regions in Italy that enjoy autonomous status. It is located in the northeastern part of the country, bordering Austria and Switzerland. The region consists of two provinces: Trentino, with its capital in Trento (which is also the regional capital), and Alto Adige, with its capital in Bolzano and a strong German character.
The main attraction of Trentino-Alto Adige is its mountains, which cover most of the region's territory. Some of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the Dolomites are found here. The area also boasts numerous lakes - the northern part of Lake Garda, with the resort town of Riva del Garda, lies in Trentino, while the enchanting Lago di Braies is in Alto Adige. Picturesque villages that have preserved their traditions are scattered throughout the valleys.
Trentino-Alto Adige is also home to some of Italy’s most famous and largest ski areas: Dolomiti Superski and Skirama Dolomiti.
