Its cities developed along the Via Emilia, a road built by the Romans in 187 BC to connect the Adriatic coast with Piacenza. Composed of the two historic areas - Emilia and Romagna - it is today one of the wealthiest regions in Italy.

You shouldn't miss the main cities in the area: Bologna, with its medieval monuments; Ferrara, part of the UNESCO heritage; Modena, with its Romanesque cathedral and the Ghirlandina tower; Parma, the birthplace of prosciutto ham and Parmigiano cheese; and Ravenna, the city of mosaics.

Emilia Romagna is also a destination for motor enthusiasts, who can visit the Ferrari Museum in Maranello, the Lamborghini, Pagani, Ducati, and Maserati factories and museums, or the Imola circuit.
