Visit Casa Martini in Turin

One of the attractions you can visit in the surroundings of Turin is Casa Martini, a museum dedicated to vermouth and the over 150-year history of the famous Martini & Rossi company.

Vermouth is one of the products that originated in Turin (you can read about others products in the article What to Eat and Drink in Turin). It is a wine flavored with various herbs and spices, created in 1786 when Antonio Carpano blended white wine with an infusion of over 30 herbs and spices.

Il Vermut di Torino is recognized as a traditional agri-food product of the Piedmont region and is a beverage with a geographical indication. The most well-known vermouth brand worldwide is Martini (which also gives its name to the cocktail), whose name has nearly become synonymous with vermouth.

Casa Martini

Casa Martini is a museum dedicated to the history and production of Martini vermouth. It is located in Pessione di Chieri, about 30 km from Turin.

Pessione di Chieri is the place where, in 1864, the company Martini Sola e C.ia - later known as Martini & Rossi - moved its production, as it was easier to source grapes and develop trade along the Turin - Genoa route. The company's first vermouth had already been created in 1863, as a result of the collaboration between investor Alessandro Martini and botanist Luigi Rossi. Martini Rosso is still produced using the same secret recipe.

The factory in Pessione di Chieri is now the largest production site, in both size and output, of the Bacardi Group, which owns Martini & Rossi.

Casa Martini was inaugurated in 1961 to mark the 100th anniversary of Italy's unification. The museum was established in the company's old brick cellars. It started with the private collection of Lando Rossi di Montelera, grandson of one of the company's founders. Over the years, the collection has grown and now includes over 600 exhibits related to the history of wine.
