Lake Como Travel Guide

Lake Como (Lago di Como in Italian) is one of the most beautiful Italian lakes. Belonging to the Lombardy region, it is the third largest by area (145 km²), after Lake Garda and Lago Maggiore. The lake has the shape of an inverted Y, with a main branch at the top (Gera), which splits to the south into two other branches (Como to the southwest and Lecco to the southeast). Lake Como is the deepest Italian lake and the fifth deepest in Europe. The maximum depth is 410 m in the Como branch.

The closest Italian airports to the lake are the airports near Milan: Orio al Serio Bergamo (located 40 km from Lecco), Malpensa (about 50 km from Como), and Linate (about 60 km from Como).

Lake Como is known worldwide for the beauty of its landscapes. Over time, luxurious villas and residences have been built on its shores, surrounded by lush gardens where art and nature blend in perfect harmony. You can discover it by driving along its shores or taking a cruise on one of the ferries and boats that travel up and down the lake.

Picturesque villages and towns line the lake's shores. Como is the largest city, while Bellagio, located at the intersection of the two branches, is the most beautiful village. Other main towns include Varenna, Cernobbio, Tremezzo, and Menaggio.
