Visit to San Siro Stadium in Milan
With a capacity of around 80,000 seats, San Siro Stadium is the largest and most famous stadium in Italy. It is not just a simple football stadium, but also one of the most famous tourist attractions in the city of Milan. It has also been called the Scala del calcio ("Scala of football") with reference to the famous Scala Opera House. In addition to football matches, concerts are also frequently organized there.
Even though most of us know it as San Siro, which is the name of the district in Milan where it is located, the official name of the stadium (which it has borne since 1980) is Giuseppe Meazza. Meazza was one of the greatest Italian football players, playing for Inter Milan and AC Milan. In 1934, Giuseppe Meazza won the Ballon d'Or award.

If you are a football enthusiast, a visit to San Siro is a must-have experience in Milan. You will see the museum dedicated to the two famous Italian teams - AC Milan and Inter Milan, the locker rooms, the players' tunnel, and the pitch. At the end of the visit, you will have the opportunity to buy souvenirs from the San Siro Store, the official stadium shop.
Tours take place every 20 minutes, with the groups being accompanied by stadium guides who usually provide explanations in either Italian or English. In total, the visit lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
A Bit of History
The idea of building a stadium was born in 1925, following the initiative of the AC Milan president. One year later, the stadium was completed. It was built near the Hippodrome in Milan, and initially, it could accommodate around 35,000 spectators. The inauguration took place on September 19, 1926, with the Milan-Inter derby.
In 1935, the Municipality of Milan bought the stadium and expanded it, with its capacity reaching 55,000 seats in 1939.
Since 1947, San Siro has also hosted Inter Milan's matches.
Further expansion works took place in 1955, increasing the capacity to around 80,000 seats.
In 1980, the stadium received its official name, "Giuseppe Meazza Stadium". In the same year, the first concert at San Siro took place - Bob Marley's concert.
In 1990, on the occasion of the FIFA World Cup, the stadium was renovated again, being entirely covered and acquiring the unmistakable appearance we know today.

San Siro Museum
The visit to San Siro Stadium begins with a tour of the museum, where the guide will offer you about 20 minutes time.
Inaugurated in 1996, the San Siro Museum was the first in Italy to be opened inside a stadium. Here, you will learn more about the history of the stadium and admire a collection of equipment from some of the most famous football players who have played at San Siro, as well as trophies and old photographs. (If you are passionate about football, you should know that there is also the Casa Milan Museum in Milan, which is entirely dedicated to the AC Milan team).

Among the legendary players whose jerseys are displayed in the San Siro Museum are Pelé, Ronaldo, Stoichkov, Ronaldinho, Ibrahimovic, Moro, Paolo Rossi, Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkaard, Marco Van Basten, Roberto Baggio, Walter Zenga, Figo, and Jurgen Klinsmann.

AC Milan and Inter Milan Locker Rooms
After visiting the museum, the actual stadium tour will begin. Accompanied by the guide, you will head to another entrance and reach the locker rooms of the two clubs that use San Siro Stadium: AC Milan and Inter Milan.

The locker rooms are personalized with the insignia and colors of the two teams. Players do not have fixed seats and can sit wherever they want. Unlike the Inter Milan locker room, which has a single circular bench, AC Milan has separate chairs.

Players' Tunnel
After visiting and photographing the locker rooms of the two teams, you will walk through the same tunnel that the players use to enter the field before a football match. To amplify the emotions, when you walk through the tunnel, the background sound will play the cheers of the tifosi (fans).
The players' tunnel was inaugurated in 2016, for the UEFA Champions League final which was held at San Siro. Until 2004, players reached the field through a side exit located at the corner between the red and green sectors. From 2004 to 2015, access was through a temporary tunnel, located where the current one is. Depending on which team is going to be the host (AC Milan or Inter Milan), the tunnel is personalized accordingly.

The Stands and the Pitch
From the tunnel, you will enter directly onto the playing field, where the guide will provide some additional explanations. Then, you will enjoy the view of the entire arena, taking turns sitting in the VIP stand and the regular seats.

Italia 110 e Lode Exhibition
From here, the tour continues with a self-guided visit to the Italia 110 e Lode exhibition, dedicated to the Italian national team.
Among other things, you will have the opportunity to see the first game kit used in the match against France in 1910, the pennant from the 1938 final played between Italy and Hungary, trophies, and jerseys of different players from the Italian national team.

San Siro Store
Finally, you will reach the San Siro Store, where you can buy all kinds of items personalized with your favorite team. The exit from the stadium will be through another gate, gate no. 14.

Use the CIAO5 code before completing your reservation on Tiqets and you will have a 5% discount.
