How to Get from Mestre to Venice?
The town of Mestre in the Veneto region is often chosen as a budget accommodation option instead of the more expensive Venice. It has the advantage of being close - the distance between Mestre and Venice is only about 10 km - and offers several transport options so you can easily reach Venice.
If you stay in Mestre, don't forget the Venice entry fee, which was recently introduced. You won't have to pay it, but you will have to register and obtain the QR code to visit the historic center (provided you are there during the relevant days and time slots).
Mestre - Venice Transport
There are several transport options from Mestre to Venice: by train, by bus, or by tram.
If you plan to use the vaporetto in Venice as well, know that Actv vaporetto tickets and travel cards also include tram or bus transport from Mestre (excluding transfer to/ from Marco Polo Airport in Venice).
Train
The simplest way to get from Mestre to Venice is by train. Many trains run every day, and a ticket costs €1.5. You can buy tickets online, at machines, or at the ticket counter in the Mestre station.
The travel time by train from Mestre to Santa Lucia station in Venice is about 10 minutes.
Don't forget to validate your ticket at the special machines before boarding the train!
Bus
Venice is also connected to Mestre by Actv buses, which end their route at Piazzale Roma.
The bus ticket bought online or from machines costs €1.5 and is valid for 75 minutes from the moment of validation. You can also pay for the ticket directly with a contactless card.
The bus journey from Mestre to Venice takes 15-30 minutes, depending on the Mestre stop where you board.
Attention! In high season, buses can be very crowded.
Tram
You can also get from Mestre to Venice by tram.
Line T1 connects Mestre city center (Piazzale Cialdini) with Piazzale Roma in Venice.
Line T2 passes by the Mestre train station and reaches the center (Piazzale Cialdini), where you will have to change to line T1.
The ticket is the same as the bus one - €1.5, valid for 75 minutes from validation.
