Alberobello
Alberobello (which translates as "beautiful tree", referring to the oak forests that once stood in the area) is one of the most well-known and popular tourist destinations in the Puglia region. Its traditional round houses, called trulli, cluster together along narrow, steep streets, giving the impression of a village of dwarfs. The largest trullo is the Trullo Sovrano, built on a hill. Many trulli have been converted into hotels, shops, and restaurants.
The trulli houses of Alberobello are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, though similar dwellings can also be found in other towns across Puglia.
