Where to Park in Venice?

Where to Park in Venice?

Parking in Venice is expensive and spaces are limited, so if you have a choice, it is better not to come by car (see also our tips for traveling to Venice). However, this is not always possible, especially when you are on a tour and want to visit several Italian cities.

The first thing you need to know is that car access in historical Venice is not allowed. Cars, as well as trams or buses, can only reach Piazzale Roma, which is at the edge of the city. This means the areas where you can park are limited. In short - you can leave your car either in Piazzale Roma (the most convenient option in terms of distance, but also the most expensive), in the Tronchetto area (a more distant option, but a bit cheaper), or on the mainland in Mestre or Punta Sabbioni (the cheapest options, but they require taking an additional means of transport to Venice).

Below you will find the main parking lots in Venice and its surroundings. For some of them, you can also make a reservation (more options can be found on Parclick or MyParking.it). There are other smaller parking lots with shorter operating hours or where you must leave your car keys so that employees can park it for you. Regardless of where you park - in Venice or outside of it - be careful never to leave money or valuables inside the car.

Parking in Piazzale Roma

Piazzale Roma is the closest place to the historical center of Venice where you can park your car. From here, you can walk into the city or take a vaporetto. Parking prices are also the highest here, as it is the closest to the city. In addition to the large parking garages mentioned below, there are a few paid spots directly in the square (€4, first 30 minutes free), marked by blue lines. However, their number is small (46 spots in total), and the maximum parking duration is 1 hour.

Autorimessa Comunale or City Parking Garage is Venice's municipal parking garage. With about 2,000 spaces, it is the largest parking lot in Piazzale Roma.

There is also an evening rate (€15), valid only for parking between 5:00 PM and 5:00 AM.

Access is allowed only for vehicles with a maximum height of 2.2m.

Parking at Marittima

On the island where Venice's maritime port is located, between Tronchetto and Piazzale Roma, there are also several parking lots. The People Mover shuttle has a station here as well.

Parcheggi VTP

Parcheggi VTP (Venezia Terminal Passegeri), with several entrances, is the official parking of the Port of Venice and can only be used by those departing on a cruise (you will need to provide the name of the ship).

Park 280

Park 280 is one of the cheapest parking lots in Venice if you only need to stay for a few hours. It costs €3 for the first hour and €2 for each additional hour. The maximum price you can pay until the end of the day is €22. Note - this is not the price for 24 hours, but the price until midnight!

Although cheaper, this parking lot has some significant disadvantages: it is a bit harder to find and fills up quickly.

Parking in Mestre

Another option is to park your car further away in the Mestre area on the mainland, connected to Venice by the Liberty Bridge (Ponte della Libertà). This is the cheapest alternative, and the probability of finding spaces easily is much higher. From Mestre, you can reach Venice in 15-30 minutes by train, tram, or bus (you can find details in the article How to Get from Venice to Mestre).

In addition to the large, organized parking lots (we have listed only a few below), there are also paid parking spaces marked by blue lines. These are paid only from Monday to Saturday, between 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM, respectively. Rates are, depending on the zone, between €0.8/ hour and €1.2/ hour.

Parking in Marghera

In the Porto Marghera area, just before the Ponte della Libertà begins, there are several parking lots. One of them is Venice City Park, where you will pay only €6.5/ day (you can also make a reservation). The parking lot is located about 50m from the station where you can take the bus to Venice. Vehicles with more than 7 seats or motorhomes are not allowed.

Nearby is also Petroli Park, a free parking lot, but where the risk of finding your car broken into is very high.

Another free parking lot in this area, located a little further away (but served by a bus), is P1 Marghera, on Via Trieste.

San Giuliano Parking

Also near the Liberty Bridge is the San Giuliano parking lot, located next to the park of the same name. The parking lot has three zones (Porta Rossa, Porta Blu, and Porta Gialla), and there are bus stations nearby that allow quick access to Venice.

The first 3 hours are free, and for the following hours, you will pay as follows:

The parking at Punta Sabbioni is suitable for those on holiday at Lido di Jesolo or the surrounding areas who want to take a boat trip to Venice or some islands in the Venetian lagoon, such as Murano, Burano, or Torcello.

Near the port where ferries and water buses depart, there are several parking lots. One of them is Auto Moto Parking, with a rate of €5/day (between January 1 and April 30, 2026) and €7/day (between May 1 and September 30, 2026).
